Platts proposes to launch daily global solar module prices

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, is seeking feedback on a proposal to launch daily global solar module price assessments, effective July 1, 2024.

Platts has observed strong interest in transparent solar module pricing, following the exponential growth in the manufacture, trade and installation of solar modules globally and is proposing to launch solar module price assessments, reflecting the price of solar modules procured for large -- utility scale -- solar park or farm renewable energy projects.

The price assessments would reflect modules with 600-700 W of output, Topcon specification and wafer sizes of 182-210 mm for contract volumes of 5-20 MW and 50-100 MW.

The price would reflect modules shipped in containers for delivery six to 10 weeks forward for a European delivery, four to eight weeks forward for a US delivery and seven to 15 days forward for loading in China.

The price would be published as an outright price in US cents per Watt on a DDP Europe, DDP US and FOB China basis. The basis location for Europe would be Rotterdam, China would be Shanghai and the US would be the East Coast.

The assessments would consider market information reported to Platts and published throughout the day, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process.

Platts may normalize information with differing specifications heard in the market to meet the assessment specifications. Normalization brings market information in line with the Platts assessed specifications.

The assessments would reflect a London time market close (4:30 pm) and would follow the Platts European publishing schedule.
