Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, has launched daily European and US spot assessments for mixed plastic waste bales, suitable as feedstock for advanced recycling via pyrolysis, March 12.
The European and US assessments reflect the prevailing market value of sorted, washed and shredded mixed plastic waste in Northwest Europe and the United States at advanced recycling facilities, conforming to the following specifications:
Product | Bale composition percentage |
Polyolefin | 86% minimum |
Polystyrene | 6% max |
PET | 1% max |
PVC | 1% max |
Metals | 1% max |
Organics & moisture | 5% max |
The US assessment includes the cost of transportation of waste within a 200-mile radius to the advanced recycling facility.
Platts understands that both respective specifications of mixed plastic waste yield a pyrolysis oil output of a minimum of 75%.
Both assessments take into consideration price information gathered up to the close of their respective assessment processes at 4:30 pm London time for Europe and 4 pm Central Time for the US, including firm bids and offers, trades and indicative values, as well as any other data deemed relevant to the assessment process, such as pre-sorted bale content, rebates, sorting, shredding, and cleaning costs.
The assessments are published in Sustainable Polymerscan and are available on Platts Connect under the following symbols:
Symbol description | Symbol |
Process-ready Mixed Plastic Waste Bale DDP US $/mt | ATICA00 |
Process-ready Mixed Plastic Waste Bale DDP US cents/lb | ATICB00 |
Process-ready Mixed Plastic Waste Bale DDP NWE $/mt | MPBCS00 |

The launch of the European assessment follows the publication of a proposal for the assessment Jan. 29, which can be found here, and a decision note published Feb. 12 which can be found here.
The launch of the American assessment follows the publication of a decision for the assessment on Feb. 26, which can be found here.
