Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, will change the roll-over date of UK Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) price assessments to July 2, effective Feb. 17, 2025.
Platts first proposed to change the roll-over date of UK REGOs on Jan. 6: Platts proposes to change roll-over date of UK Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin(opens in a new tab)
This change will make it so that current compliance period REGOs will expire on July 1 of the current year, and roll to the next compliance period on July 2, to incorporate trading of REGOs until they are counted by Ofgem for the Fuel Mix Disclosure – the main use of these certificates.
Prior to the change effective Feb. 17, 2025, Platts current compliance period REGOs roll on April 1 of each year, which means the current compliance period REGO assessment will have an extended compliance period through July 1, 2025.
For example, the current compliance period of CP-23 has been assessed from April 1, 2024 and would be assessed until July 1, 2025, with Platts assessing the new current compliance period as CP-24 from July 2, 2025 to July 1, 2026, at which point it would continue to roll on July 2 of concurrent years.
Platts publishes REGO prices for three years:
Platts symbols for these assessments will not change, but the compliance period they refer to will be extended. While the compliance period is shifting, Platts takes into account REGOs produced from April 1 of the current year to March 31 of the following year and will continue to do so. For example, CP-24 will be assessed as the current compliance period from July 2, 2025 to July 1, 2026, taking into account REGOs produced between April 1, 2025 and March 31, 2026.
Each REGO represents the environmental attributes of renewable electricity and represents one megawatt hour of electricity generated from renewable sources, as certified and recorded within Ofgem's Renewable & Combined Heat Power registry.
