New facility to supply company's expanding can capacity

Investments serve 'unprecedented demand' for packaging

Pittsburgh — Ball will construct a new facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky, to manufacture ends for aluminum beverage cans with production scheduled to begin in early 2022, the company said Jan. 7.

The facility "will provide aluminum end supply to Ball's expanding North American network of beverage can manufacturing plants," Colin Gillis, Ball's president of beverage packaging in North & Central America, said in a statement.

Ball plans to add over 6 billion units of aluminum can capacity to the company's North American operations this year once new plants in Glendale, Arizona, and Pittston, Pennsylvania, come online in early- and mid-2021, respectively.

Gillis said the new can and end capacity investments were supported by numerous long-term customer contracts "to serve the unprecedented demand for sustainable aluminum packaging."

Ball now operates over 20 aluminum beverage can plants in North America, Gillis added.

The metal container manufacturer did not disclose the production volume of the new plant.
