Spring wheat exports more than double in week ended Jan. 12

Durum wheat shipments increase by 77% from year-ago level

Canada's total wheat exports spiked 151% to 727,400 mt in the week ended Jan. 12, compared with the 289,800 mt seen exported during the previous week, according to Canadian Grain Commission data.

Spring wheat outflows rose 124% to 611,100 mt, up from the 272,400 mt seen during the previous week. Those of durum grade also surged on the week to 116,300 mt compared with the 17,400 mt exported during the previous week, the data showed Jan. 16.

Platts, part of S&P Global Commodity Insights, assessed. 13.5% Canadian Western Red Spring wheat FOB Vancouver 30-45 days forward at $266.58/mt on Jan. 16, down $2.20 from the day prior and 73 cents below the Jan. 9 assessment.

Total wheat exports so far in the marketing year 2024-25 (August-July) stood at 11.706 million mt, 9% above the corresponding period a year ago led by a surge in durum shipments year on year.

Spring wheat sales were down less than 1% on the year, while durum exports were up 77% from the year-ago level.
