Future of the Mobility Sector in a Net-Zero World
Join us for a roundtable discussion of key "speedbumps" that could slow the transition to net-zero
4 December 2023 | 3:00 - 4:30 pm | At COP28 in Dubai, UAE
- Regulatory Landscape: The current regulatory landscape for the automotive sector is undergoing significant changes to align with the Paris Climate Agreement targets. Governments around the world are implementing stricter emissions standards and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, there is still a need for further policy development and implementation to ensure the sector can meet its decarbonization goals. This includes incentives for EV adoption, investment in charging infrastructure, and support for research and development of alternative fuels and technologies. Will these policies be enough to ensure the transition?
- Supply Chain: The decarbonization goals set by the mobility sector and geographies present significant challenges for the automotive supply chain. The transition to net-zero requires a shift towards more sustainable materials, such as lightweight materials and recycled components, as well as the development of cleaner manufacturing processes. Additionally, the supply chain needs to adapt to support the increased production of EVs and the development of new technologies, such as hydrogen fuel cells. Collaboration between automakers, suppliers, and governments is crucial to ensure the supply chain can meet the demands of decarbonization. Will the automotive supply chain be able to cope with the decarbonization goals set by Mobility sector and geographies?
- Affordability for Consumers: The cost of transitioning to net-zero in the automotive sector is a key consideration for consumers. While EVs have become less expensive in recent years, the upfront cost of purchasing an electric vehicle is still higher compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Will governments and industry stakeholders work together to ensure affordability and accessibility of net-zero solutions for consumers?
